Picture
I made This Little Angel Pillow to increase my own awareness to the supportive forces, some call them angels, always present in our lives.  I invite you to participate by taking a few moments to think and then jot down a desire or intention that you have been contemplating on a piece of paper.  Store the paper in the pocket on the front of This Little Angel, and remember to read it every day for 7 days.  Begin to notice and acknowledge the co-incidences and the synchronistic events that occur in your life, and move towards them.

Trope:  My Aunt's Porch

Picture
These vintage cotton fabrics were found at the bottom of a beautiful cedar chest located in a forgotten corner of a home in Jamaica Plain.  The turquoise blues and browns, the checks and the climbing morning glories, were decorative themes introduced in the 1930's and commonly used in home decorating fabric well into the late 1950's.  I love to make pillows from this genre of fabric, as it reminds me of my very early childhood, and brings to mind a favorite quote from William Faulkner, "The past is never dead, it isn’t even past."

Affirmation:

"I gain wisdom, clarity, and understanding from memories of my childhood”

Trope: Remember Roses

Picture
As young girl I loved to explore the top of my mother's bureau. She collected glass paper weights, my favorite was one that contained a perfect red rose.  I would cup my hands around the glass and stare into the depths of that radiant rose.

I was thrilled when I found this 1940's twill cotton harking from that era.  The rose on the fabric looks exactly like the rose that was preserved in the snow globe, full-bodied and a deep rich red. We all have times and places from the past that we yearn for, and sometimes one small thing can impel us to recall an entire period of our lives. I hope that these vintage textiles re-kindle some of your own memories of love and warmth, connection and joy.

Affirmation:
"I am joyously connecting to the love that is always with me, always surrounding me."

Trope: Love Poem

Picture
This soft sculpture Love pillow is really a poem. A poem from the heart that we can all write and sing and draw and dance with, a poem that is ours and ours to give away, again and again and again.

Affirmation: "Loving myself, I love others."

Trope: Precious Pearls

Picture
I remember the spring morning when my mother fastened a small string of pearls around my neck. As I felt her loving caress, she whispered, "Darling, pearls are made when an oyster is irritated by a bit of sand caught under it's shell.  If the simple oyster can create a thing of such perfect and lasting beauty..think what you can do!"

The design for this pillow was inspired by my mother's salient wisdom and by my love for traditional Indian fabrics.  I embroidered discarded sari's with layers of cotton, silk, and jacquard ribbon to produce a rich fabric worthy of a pearl. A grain of sand, a pile of old saris, what at first appears useless is really a foundation for beauty.

Affirmation: "I overcome obstacles and challenges with grace and wisdom as I create a life filled with beauty and love".

Trope: Spring Planting

Picture
When the earth is soft with spring rain and the sparse grass a bright new green, I love to go into the garden and dig. Dropping fat seeds into dark furrows, I am humbled, knowing the changes that will soon take place, naturally, without struggle. I wonder "Why do I struggle with my own growth, and how can I be my own garden?"

Affirmation: "I nurture my own growth gently, with wisdom and kindness."

Trope: Sunrise at the Beach

Picture
Living in a small coastal community in the east, I often have the delight of watching the sun as it rises out of the ocean and casts a warm orange glow over the sea, the sand, and the rocks. The vibrating light, the powerful ocean, every moment filled with movement and magic. Beneath all this, inside the waves and the light particles, patterns are subtly discernible. The tide marks on the sand, the distinct patterns on a sea shell, the skeletal remains of a small fish. These powerful clues hint at the wonder of life and hold the wisdom of nature deep within them.

This pillow is a reminder of that wonder and brings the colors of sunrise at the beach into your home and heart.

Affirmation:  “I flow with the challenges in my life and meet change with a light filled heart".

Trope: Scarlet Lotus

Picture
The Indian Scarlet Lotus depicted here is a traditional Buddhist symbol of love, passion and compassion. The lotus thrives when it's roots are sunk deeply in the lake bottom, hidden in the dark, silent muck. It grows slowly, and finally, after years of pushing thru the still water, a red blossom appears radiantly upon the surface. Truly an example of moving from darkness into the light.

Affirmation: "I overcome obstacles and challenges with grace and wisdom as I create a life filled with beauty and love."

Trope: Pearls of Wisdom

Picture
Pearls, pearls, pearls…so round, so luminous, so wise.  The wisdom of the pearl is in it's making, as it is made by an oyster when a tiny grain of sand becomes trapped inside it's shell. The wisdom of transformation hidden inside an oyster….if a bi-valve can do it, I can do it too!

Affirmation: "I transform obstacles into opportunities as I create a life of luminous beauty and continuing spiritual growth."

Trope: Wish

Picture
Sometimes when my mind is very active and sleep evades me, I bundle my every thought and feeling into a deep wish to grow spiritually…"I wish to grow" I whisper to myself over and over, and picture prisms of light dancing above my head, above my head.

When I awaken in the early morning light, I always feel a tiny bit wiser.

Affirmation: "My spiritual growth is sustained by unseen forces that always support me".

Trope: Blessed Turmoil

Picture
I love walking through the piles of leaves that appear everywhere during the New England fall. The tremendous variety of shapes and colors, the sounds of crunching under foot, the thrill of watching them blow away in a gust of wind is wonderful.   Sometimes, in the turmoil of my own thoughts, I feel like a fall leaf, drifting aimlessly where the wind blows me.  I catch myself when I have this negative thought, and remind myself that my soul is my own, it is under my power, and, unlike a leaf, I can choose my own direction.

Affirmation: "I always choose to move towards experiences and people that validate me and make me feel whole."

Trope: Way to the Stars

Picture
When I become trapped in prison of negative thinking, it is often because I have become oblivious to the sparks of life and beauty that surround me.  When this happens, I often reach for a picture of the night sky, or, if I am fortunate, I step outside to see the stars. The beauty of the night sky is so extraordinary, so powerful, that I am catapulted me out of my negativity into awe and appreciation.

Affirmation: "I find joy inspiration in the stars that are always surrounding me, always there to inspire my soul."
